Iran is situated in a high altitude plateau in south-western Asia surrounded by connected ranges of mountains. Thanks to its location, special variety of flora and fauna are recorded in Iran; which are unique in arid areas of Eastern Hemisphere. Dasht-e Kavir or Kavire Namak, also referred to as the Great Salt Desert, is the largest salted desert in central of Iran plateau. This Iran Desert is the largest Deserts in Iran which stretches from the south hillside of Alborz mountain range in the north-west to Dasht-e Lut which covers an area of about 800 km (500 mi) by 320 km (200 mi). The desert has a total surface area of about 77,600 km2 (30,000 mile2) and is partitioned between the Iranian provinces of Khorasan, Semnan, Tehran, Isfahan and Yazd. It is named after the salt marshes (Kavir) located there. 
The only plants that could adapt this weather condition are species like shrubs and grasses on mountain tops and Mugwort which is the most widespread plant.
Wild sheep, camels, goats, and Persian leopards are common in mountainous areas, and Persian gazelles live in parts of steppe and desert areas of the central plateau. Dasht-e Kavir is covered by sand and pebbles in most parts. The weather is exposed to strong winds and storm.

Kavir-e Lut or Dasht-e Lut is not only the hottest desert in Iran but also is the hottest desert in the world. In Iran, there are two items on the list of UNESCO world Heritage sites on the natural category. Dashte lut is the first one inscribed by UNESCO. Kavir-e lut is situated between 3 provinces of South Khorasan, Sistan and Baluchestan and Kerman near the city of Kerman, to be more specified in Shahdad Village; covers an area of 51,800 km2 (20,000 mile2) with 320 km (200 miles) from northwest to southeast and about 160 km (100 miles) wide.  The world's tallest sandy pyramids are located in the Lut plain, with the height of some pyramids reaching 480 meters. It is divided into 3 sections: North Lut, Central Lut and South Lut, while the most important feature of these sections is that the North Loot is made up of sand. Kaluts are the most amazing part of the desert which attracts many tourists annually from inside or outside Iran.
