The Lut Desert, or Dasht-e-Lut is in an arid continental subtropical area notable for a rich variety of spectacular desert land forms. The Lut Desert is in the southeast of the Iran enclosed by 3 provinces of Khorasan, Sistan & Baloochestan & kerman. Dashte Lut is the world's 27th-largest desert, and listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Literally, ‘Lut’ refers to bare land without water and devoid of vegetation. Due to its location in an interior basin surrounded by mountains, so it is in a rain shadow and, coupled with high temperatures, the climate is hyper-arid. The region often experiences Earth’s highest land surface temperatures: a temperature of 70.7°C has been recorded within the property between 2003 and 2009.

Dashte Lut itself is divided in to 3 main spots, Central Lut, North Lut & South Lut that Central Lut is more exciting & popular to people. In this area you can enjoy its 3 portions of Shahdad as the most astonishing & impressive spot, dunes & pediment are the other portions. Lut Desert surrounded by the deep silence of the desert and brings you the inner tranquility.
Kalut
Lut desert is one of the most amazing places in this planet. Lut Desert is divided into three sections: The northern, central and southern sections. The central section is the largest part of Lut Desert. There are several kalouts, a moving sand castle that is built one day and moves on the next, in this region that extends from central Lut to the west. The kalouts cover part of the western fringe of Lut Desert with an average length of 145 km. When you walked out of the car, it felt like walking on Mars. All around was dry hot sand, no vegetation, no birds or other animals. Sand storm had shaped the tall hills into monuments in amazing shapes.

Sand Dunes
The Sand dunes are situated in the south of central Lut. The height of these sand dunes is up to 480 meters. In order to reach the dunes, you'll need to do a tour with a 4WD and experienced guide.

Nabkha
The wonderful natural phenomenon in the Lut desert is Nabkha which is a type of Tamarisk trees. Nabkha is a result of the interaction of wind erosion, moisture of the region and vegetation cover, so the existence of a plant in the way of the air flow, causes the sand to accumulate at the bottom of the plant and as a result, a Sand dune will be created with a crown of vegetation and sometimes they reach 10 meters in length, While the height of the tallest Nabkha in the desert of Africa are hardly reaching 3 meters.
Since 2004-2009 Lut desert was the hottest place on the earth that recorded about 70.7 temperatures.

The best time to visit?
due to the Climate of this spot of Iran, it has a real hot summer & cold winter, therefore, the best time to visit Shahdad Desert is from late September to mid of December, mid of March to Mid of April.
